May Day: UGT discusses Brazil – UGT celebreated the International Workers’ Day discussing Brazil’s problems with the seminar “Workers in Times of Crisis: Building Alternatives”. The event took place in São Paulo, at Novotel, on April 25 and 26, through a partnership with Unicamp (CESIT). Ricardo Patah, national president of UGT, opened the event emphasizing that due to the current political situation UGT will not allow more losses than those that our workers already had. “UGT wants a better Brazil with social inclusion. Our policy is the one of workers. We have to continue to fight for women’s rights. We want to participate with better contributions,” he affirmed.
Workers and 100 years of Samba – Paulista Avenue gave path to major names of the Brazilian samba: the photographic exhibition Workers and 100 years of Samba, in the morning of May 1, in front of Conjunto Nacional, in São Paulo. The exhibition is part of the celebration of the International Workers Day organized by UGT.
Industry expects change in the labor legislation – On April 27, representatives of the industrial sector presented to Michel Temer, vice-president of Brazil, a set of 38 proposals for the next two years if president Dilma Rousseff is removed by the Congress.
3rd Congress of the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas -Patah attends opening of the 3rd Congress of the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas. The Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA) held its 3rd Congress in Sao Paulo, from April 26 to 30, with the participation of 500 officers representing 40 countries of the Americas and having as its main topic democracy, rights and more and better jobs.
World Day for Safety and Health at Work – April 28 recalls that, worldwide, victims of accidents at work. Minas Gerais was stage of the largest accident at work of Brazil – the accident of Mariana, and paid a tribute to victims of the mining dam disaster in the industrial unity of Germando, with a public hearing promoted by the assembly of Minas Gerais in town (ALMG).
Sustainable development and the future of work – Ricardo Patah, president of UGT, will attend the world seminar on “Sustainable Development and the future of work within the context of the mercy jubilee”, which will take place from May 02 to 05 in Rome, Italy, and the leader of UGT will represent the Brazilian people in the event.
Cooperative workers from Paraná – More than 3,500 cooperative workers actively participated in the meeting, which is one of the largest congresses in our State and had, as its motto, “The Strength of Work that Changes Agribusiness in Paraná”.
UN against slave work – The maintenance of the current concept of “slave work” and the reactivation of the “black list” are among the recommendations that were made in the UN System in Brazil to avoid setbacks.
